Kelowna man ‘gobsmacked’ by $1M lottery win

When a Kelowna man found out he won $1 million on a Lotto Max ticket, like most lottery winners, he was shocked.

Edward M. was at home during the holiday season when he found out he won the Dec. 23 draw, according to a press release from BC Lottery Corporation issued today, Jan. 8. BCLC has stopped release the surnames of lottery winner, but is still releasing their photos.

“I didn’t believe it,” he said in the release. “Humbled, gobsmacked and disbelief.”

When he told his kids about the cash, one of them cried and another was filled with pure excitement. He said he plans on celebrating the win with a “family shindig.”

“This win just means more time with my kids and being able to financially be there for them if they need it,” he said. “Retiring is also something I will be able to do now.”

The winning ticket was purchased at the Walmart on Banks Road in Kelowna.

The odds of winning a Lotto Max jackpot are one in 33,293,800 per $5 play.
