West Kelowna squares invite beginner dancers to the floor

Get your dancing shoes on for lessons in West Kelowna.

A local non-profit is inviting beginners to the floor for square dancing lessons for the next several weeks.

The Westsyde Squares is hosting a series of weekly low-cost lessons for their “Come Try It” series. It’s an introduction to the folk dance every Monday until May 11.

On its first night, March 2, 25 dancers showed up, but there are still more chances to go if you missed the first couple Mondays.

“The club welcomes you to consider inviting neighbours, friends and relatives. Also, feel free to attend as a single because they’ll make sure to team you up with another dancer. Several accomplished dancers are attending to fill-in wherever needed,” a Westsyde Squares news release reads.

The non-profit added that the $14 weekly lessons come at a a great time with the upcoming Canadian National Square, Round and Clog Dance Convention heading to Penticton in July.

The drop-in lessons are hosted at West Kelowna’s Lakeview Heights Community Hall for two hours every Monday until May 11, except April 6. It lasts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and costs $14.
