West Kelowna couple charged in connection to violent home invasion

A West Kelowna couple have been charged in relation to a violent home invasion more than two years after police released CCTV footage of one of the suspects.

Japheth Gary Izatt-Sill, 37, and Tia Destiny Rae Michelle, 35, had their first court appearance, March 19, both facing charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, assault by choking, unlawful confinement or imprisonment, robbery and uttering threats.

Details of what precisely took place aren’t known, but the robbery happened in West Kelowna and dates back to September 2023.

Several months later, West Kelowna RCMP released CCTV footage of one of the suspects asking the public for information about what it described as an assault and robbery. Police at the time said a second suspect was called to the residence.

It’s not clear why it’s taken more than two years for charges to be laid.

Two months after the incident, Izatt-Sill pleaded guilty to an assault that took place in May 2022. He was sentenced to 12 months probation.

In 2009, Izatt-Sill was convicted of sexual assault, assault and uttering threats. He was given one year of house arrest, but breached his conditions and spent some time behind bars. He also later breached his probation.

Michelle has no criminal record.

None of the charges has been proven in court.
