Little Miracles Preschool Makes the Community the Classroom

Business Spotlight

When Vernon parents begin searching for a preschool, they often focus on the school’s playground first—and the classroom second. But one local program is turning that thinking on its head. At Little Miracles Preschool, the community is the playground—and a vital part of the classroom.

While the Little Miracles Preschool has a physical home base, much of the learning happens out in the world. Field trips and community exploration are built into the curriculum throughout the year, giving children a broader, more hands-on experience of the place they live.

Owner Tamara Kayle has made this philosophy the foundation of the school. “We travel to a variety of playgrounds, science centres, gymnastics programs, and nature parks—the children learn so much from those interactions,” she says. “They’re not just spending all their time in a classroom or one individual playground—they’re enjoying the wider Vernon community.”

Tamara’s connection to Little Miracles began long before she became its owner in 2017. Both of her daughters attended the preschool, giving her a firsthand look at how effective—and impactful—the approach could be. That experience now shapes the way the program continues to evolve.

Building Confidence Through Community-Based Learning

“Preschool is all about stepping outside of comfort zones, exploring new surroundings, and having a safe environment that supports that,” she explains. At its core, Little Miracles is built on a few simple—but often overlooked—principles.

First, children need to feel like they are part of a family. Creating a safe, familiar environment gives them the confidence to try new things. From there, the focus shifts to exploration, encouraging children to expand their boundaries in a supportive setting. “We want to provide an experience that is both fun and educational,” says Tamara. “At the end of the day, every child is capable of reaching their own milestones—we just get to be part of that journey.”

One word comes up again and again when speaking with Tamara: routine. While each child’s day may look a little different, a consistent structure helps make new challenges more manageable. It also plays a critical role in preparing children for what comes next. “Routine and socialization before grade school are essential,” she explains. “When teachers are organized, and children know what to expect, it builds confidence.” That sense of familiarity pays off when students move on to grade school. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a new environment, they’re ready to step in with confidence.

A Home Away From Home for Growing Minds

Early literacy and numeracy are also woven into the program—but always through play. By combining structured routines with engaging, hands-on experiences, Little Miracles creates an environment that is both welcoming and gently challenging. “When new families join us, the first thing we say is ‘welcome to our family,’” Tamara says. “We want them to feel like this is a home away from home.

Exploration, Routine, and a Place to Belong

That sense of belonging carries through to graduation, which is treated as the meaningful milestone it is. Events throughout the year—such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations—help build confidence, but graduation is where it all comes together. “Feeling comfortable in a classroom is one thing,” Tamara says. “But we also want our students to feel ready for new experiences—like getting up on stage. Graduation is a chance for them to show just how far they’ve come.” With strong relationships already in place, students can take those big steps in a supportive, familiar environment.

Parent reviews:

“Our experience at Little Miracles has been outstanding! With 3 children, we have participated in several pre-school & daycare programs over the years, and this particular pre-school outshines them all. Our daughter even goes so far as to instruct us “Not to pick her up early today!”…I think that speaks for itself! The facility is organized, spotless and friendly and the curriculum is truly preparing our daughter for Kindergarten.”

We have loved having our daughter at little miracles. Our daughter wakes up every day excited to go to school. All the teachers are amazing and we see such growth in every aspect of our daughters development. Highly recommended.
