CRANBROOK, B.C. – Jaedon Descheneau scored and added two assists as the Kootenay Ice skated past the Victoria Royals 5-1 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League play.
Sam Reinhart had a goal and an assist for Kootenay (27-28-2), while Tanner Muth, Luke Philp and Brock Montgomery added singles. Mackenzie Skapski made 30 saves for the win.
Steven Hodges was the lone scorer for Victoria (32-20-4). Patrik Polivka started in net for the Royals and was pulled after Descheneau’s goal. He stopped 19 of 23 shots. Coleman Vollrath turned aside four of the five shots he faced in relief.
Both teams went 0 for 3 on the power play.
The Ice scored late in the first period with Muth’s wrist shot from the blue-line beating the screened goalie high on the glove side.
Kootenay made it 2-0 in the second on a rebound goal by Reinhart. It was his 27th of the season, a career best.
Montgomery and Descheneau scored less than a minute apart to give the Ice a 4-0 lead.
The Royals scored a few minutes later with Steven Hodges scoring with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
Philip then made it 5-1 with the teams skating 4 on 4.
