RCMP officer attacked outside rock bar

KAMLOOPS – Bystanders watched and shot video while a Kamloops RCMP officer fought off an attack by a suspect outside a local nightspot Saturday.

The officer was conducting a regular patrol in the alley behind the Rock'in Firkin Pub around 8:20 p.m. when he pulled over a woman he suspected had been drinking and tried to get a breath sample.

RCMP say her husband came out of the bar and began verbally abusing the officer. Police believe he had been drinking.

Then it turned ugly. The suspect attacked the officer, hitting and punching him.

The fight went on for several minutes in front of other bar patrons, some shooting video with their phones, before backup arrived and the suspect was arrested.

Two officers and the suspect suffered injuries.

A Kamloops man faces charges of assaulting a police officer and causing a disturbance.
