Overturned semi closed Kelowna roads for hours

Traffic was diverted for several hours in Kelowna yesterday morning after a transport truck tipped onto its side.

The crash, which happened just before 8:55 a.m. yesterday, Aug. 11, resulted in the closure of Clifton Road and High Road.

Witnesses told police that a southbound white semi-truck and trailer was trying to turn onto Clifton Road from High Road when it flipped over.

A passenger in the semi was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver suffered no injuries.

The road remained closed for several hours while members of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Services and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement conducted an investigation.

“(Officers) collected evidence to assist in determining the cause of the collision,” RCMP media relations officer Const. Solana Paré said in the release.

“Our traffic services investigators are urging eye witnesses to the crash, to the previous movements of the semi-trailer truck involved or to the operators driving behaviour prior to the collision to immediately come forward and speak with police.”

Anybody with dash cam footage of the crash is also being asked to contact Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Services, their number is 250-762-3300.
