UPDATE: Pedestrian struck and killed in Rutland identified

UPDATE 12:35 p.m. May 6, 2013

A pedestrian struck and killed by a car while jaywalking across Highway 33 near Dougall Road over the weekend has been identified.

An RCMP press release states the person was Robert George, 54, from Kelowna. Next of kin have been notified of his death.

The 51-year-old man driving the car in the incident was not physically injured.

12:58 p.m. May 4, 2013

A 54-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while jaywalking across Highway 33 near Dougall Road late last night.

Police were called around 11:30 a.m. Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver was unable to see the pedestrian due to darkness. The name of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses are asked to contact Cst. Lise Marion of Central Okanagan Traffic Services at (250) 980-5350.
