Semi trucks collide on icy Trans-Canada near Salmon Arm

Two commercial truck drivers escaped serious injury yesterday after one of the trucks lost control on an icy section of the Trans-Canada Highway west of Salmon Arm.

According to a Salmon Arm RCMP media release, a semi-truck driving east-bound lost control on the icy highway and crossed into the oncoming lanes.

A westbound truck, towing two empty fuel trailers swerved and managed to avoid a head-on collision as the two semi-trucks side-swiped each other.

The crash happened in Tappen, Wednesday, Feb. 2, at roughly 8:30 p.m.

Police say both trucks were spun "out of control" with one ending up jack-knifed at the intersection of Highway 1 and James Road. The other ended up in the westbound ditch.

Emergency crews spent three-and-a-half hours cleaning up the wreckage, as both trucks were heavily damaged.

Luckily, both drivers didn't suffer any major injuries, say police.
