Cause of Kelowna house fire deemed ‘suspicious’

The cause of a house fire along Kelowna's main highway has been deemed suspicious and will be investigated.

At approximately 7 a.m. this morning, Feb. 13, Kelowna Fire Dispatch received a call from the RCMP as black smoke was seen coming from the rear of a house in the 700 block of Harvey Ave, according to the fire department's press release.

Firefighters reported flames and black smoke coming from the rear of the building.

Crews deployed a hose line to the rear of the home and quickly extinguished the fire, according to the fire department.

Firefighters then went into the home to confirm everyone was out. All residents made it out safely and crews went into an overhaul phase to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.

"At this time, we don’t have a cause for the fire and (it) is suspicious.  Four engines, a rescue truck, a command unit, RCMP and B.C. Ambulance Service were dispatched to the fire along with 19 fire personal," said Shayne Kiehlbauch, platoon captain, in the press release.
