Boyce once again speaking out against Ajax

KAMLOOPS — Richard Boyce shocked people when he announced he did not support the proposed Ajax Mine and this weekend he will speak out again.

At an October Rotary Club meeting Boyce, the president of the local steelworkers union, shocked the room when he said as it stood he could not endorse the project.

“Personally, on the information out now, I can't endorse it. Nor would I,” he says. “I think we need to take a closer look at this.”

Now the Thompson Rivers University Faculty Association, along with the university Eco Club and the Kamloops Physicians for a Healthy Environment, have asked Boyce to speak about the 'reality of having a mine on our door step.'

Boyce will speak about the pros and cons of having nearby mining activity and the reality of having a mine next door.

The event will take place at Parkside Lounge at the Interior Savings Centre on Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m.

In the past year the faculty group have hosted several other speakers as well, including economics professor Dr. Peter Tsigaris, Dr. Jill Calder of the physicians group talking about the potential health impacts and tourism professors Dr. Rob Hood and Dr. John Hull talking about the vision of Kamloops and how a mine would fit in.
