Ceremony to mark 50th anniversary of Const. Neil Bruce death

WEST KELOWNA – On April 14, 2015, it will be the 50th Anniversary of the tragic death of Constable Neil Bruce. On April 10, 1965, Constable Bruce was shot while attempting to negotiate the release of a 16 year female who was being forcibly confined and sexually assaulted in a cabin near Powers Creek, Westbank, B.C. Four days later, Constable Bruce, then 26 years old,  died of his injuries, leaving behind a young wife and two children under the age of 2.

Both regular and auxiliary members of the RCMP, RCMP Vets, students of CNB (Constable Neil Bruce Middle School), as well as friends and family of Constable Neil Bruce will be attending Glen Canyon Regional Park to remember Cst. Bruce. The ceremony will be to honour him for making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

There will be a ceremony on April 14, 2015 at 10:30 am at the cairn located in Glen Canyon Park, off Aberdeen Road in West Kelowna. There will be a number of dignitaries attending to the service, including the Commanding Officer of the RCMP in British Columbia, Deputy Commissioner Craig Callens. Following the ceremony, CNB will be hosting a reception at the School at 1:05 pm.
