Penticton retail cannabis shops stuck with 8 p.m. closings
Penticton retail cannabis shops will have to wait to see if the city will extend their hours of operation beyond 8 p.m.
Penticton City Council received a petition of 300 signatures, requesting a change in retail operating hours to allow stores to remain open until 11 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. as the city now allows.
Cannabis retail outlets in other major centres are varied in their closing times, with Kelowna, Vernon and kamloops stores open as late as 11 p.m.
Penticton council opted to accept the petition but take no action until a formal review of the city’s cannabis store regulatory approach, which is scheduled for August, 2021.
Council saw no reason to advance the schedule, which was set for review two years following the first cannabis retail store opening in the city.
