American rapper Afroman making appearance at Vernon nightclub

Afroman’s Canadian Cannabis Tour will include a stop in the Okanagan.

Joseph Edgar Foreman, better known by his stage name Afroman, is an American stoner rapper who rose to fame in 2000 with his hit song Because I Got High.

He will be performing in Vernon at Status Nightclub on Halloween, Oct. 31. The opening act for every Canadian show will be Kelowna rapper Robbie G.

'Cannabis' is in the title of the tour because every night is show will get smoky, Robbie G said. Both rappers will also be making appearances at dispensaries along the way.

When Because I Got High was first release, Robbie G was in high school, and he remembers listening to it while getting stoned before class.

"Not to be a bad influence to other kids in schools but smoking weed really helped me stay focussed in class and also helped create lifelong social circles," he said. "People I smoked weed with to that song are still friends of mine today."

He also recalls the song was well known for being featured in the film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

"It was just such a vibe," Robbie G said. "The beat, the words, the cadence – all was perfect for blazing, and everyone had go-to songs that they would blaze to."

Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 5 at 10 a.m.  Tickets will set you back $35, or $70 for a meet and greet with Afroman.
