72-year-old man killed in ATV crash in Peachland

A 72-year-old man was killed riding an ATV in Peachland Wednesday afternoon.

The fatal crash happened at around 4:30 p.m., July 29, in the former Gladstone Mine area near the 4600 block of Ponderosa Road, according to an RCMP media release issued today, July 30.

RCMP said he was travelling with a companion on the off-road trails when they became separated.

The 72-year-old’s ATV left the trail and went down a step embankment, rolled and came to rest against trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Search and rescue volunteers helped police access the scene and recover the rider’s body and the ATV.

RCMP say drugs and alcohol were not factors.

RCMP and BC Coroners Service are both investigating the fatal crash.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time,” West Kelowna RCMP media relations officer Const. Ash Puri said in the release.
