Two killed in collision on Highway 3A in West Kootenays

Two people are dead after a two-vehicle collision near Castlegar.

An off-duty B.C. Highway Patrol member came upon a crash between a Toyota Corolla and a Ford F-350 truck on Highway 3A near the Shoreacres Bridge at 3:35 p.m., Feb. 25, according to a media release from B.C. Highway Patrol.

The response included the Castlegar RCMP, Nelson RCMP, B.C. Highway Patrol, B.C. Ambulance, local fire services and a physician with Kootenay Emergency Response Physician Association.

Despite the best efforts of first responders two passengers in the rear of the Toyota – a 68-year-old female and a 79-year-old female from Nelson – died as a result of their injuries.

The driver and front-seat passenger were taken to the hospital and the driver of the truck was not seriously injured.

Police closed Highway 3A for serval hours as they investigated and recovered the vehicles involved. The investigation is ongoing.

Anybody with information about the accident or dashboard cam footage of pre-collision driving is asked to call the B.C. Highway Patrol in Nelson at 250-354-5180.
