Man arrested after stolen vehicle takes off at high speed in Vernon

Vernon RCMP are investigating after a suspicious vehicle fled at high speed after police attempted to pull it over last week.

An officer attempted the traffic stop on 24 Avenue after spotting the suspicious vehicle at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 15, RCMP said.

However, the vehicle failed to stop and sped away from the officer driving dangerously. Police deemed the situation too dangerous to pursue the vehicle.

With assistance from the public and multiple officers, the vehicle was found abandoned on Okanagan Avenue.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, which had been reported stolen, was located nearby and arrested, RCMP said.

The suspect was later released from custody.
