Sharp-eyed citizens help Kamloops RCMP catch truck thief

Kamloops RCMP are grateful to a members of the public for their help in locating a stolen truck and apprehending its occupants.

A white pickup had recently been reported stolen from the 700 block of Columbia Street West, according to an RCMP press release.

After it was stolen, somebody reported the vehicle as suspicious in the Juniper Ridge neighbourhood, Sept. 13.

On Sept. 15, an officer spotted the stolen pickup while on patrol near Yew Street.

“The truck was unoccupied at the time of its discovery, but thanks to a good description of its occupants provided from a person in the area, officers were able to find and arrest two people nearby,” Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release. “One of those people matched the description of the person photographed during the Juniper Ridge report.”

The two people arrested were a man and a woman. The man was released with conditions and a court date, while the woman was released without any charges.

“The photos and descriptions provided by the public were instrumental in helping police retrieve the stolen truck and license plate, as well as apprehend a suspect,” Cpl. Evelyn said.

Police also investigated a utility trailer in Valleyview that was suspected of being connected to the white pickup, however officers determined it was rented legally.

To help with the ongoing investigation, the RCMP is asking the public for more help. They shared a photo of the vehicle, and anyone who may have captured it via surveillance, or have information related to the investigation, is asked to share it with police.
