Three killed and one injured in crash near Invermere: RCMP

Three people were killed and one person was injured Tuesday in a single-vehicle crash north of Invermere in the East Kootenay.

Officers were called to the crash at around 10:30 p.m., July 9, on Westside Road near Panorama Drive in Wilmer, according to an RCMP media release.

The vehicle had driven off the road and down an embankment knocking down power lines which cut power in the community. RCMP don’t say what kind of vehicle was involved in the crash.

“The driver was taken to hospital with what’s believed to be serious, non-life-threatening injuries, while three passengers were sadly pronounced deceased,” BC RCMP spokesperson Cpl. James Grandy said in the release.

“Speed, along with intoxication, are both believed to be a contributing factor.”

The victims’ identifies have not be made public by RCMP.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate.
