15-year-old killed in ATV rollover near Barriere

A 15-year-old was killed in an ATV rollover near Barriere on Sunday.

Officers were called to the scene of the crash at the two-kilometre mark of Darlington Creek Forest Service Road at around 4:30 p.m. June 9, according to a Barriere RCMP media release.

Paramedics and bystanders were already providing medical attention to the youth when officers arrived.

The 15-year-old driving lost control of the ATV and it rolled. The teenager was killed and a passenger suffered minor injuries.

RCMP say the youth killed wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Both the RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating.

“This tragic event has had a significant impact on all communities surrounding Barriere,” RCMP Cpl. Kyle Camalush said in the release.
