iN TRAFFIC: Slippery roads and snow in tonight’s forecast

Drivers may notice some winter conditions on Interior highways today, Dec. 9.

Highway 1 has slippery sections between Chase and Sicamous, according to DriveB.C., and it also has compact snow between Jackass Mountain Summit and Spences Bridge.

On the Coquihalla Highway, there is compact snow, slush and slippery sections between the Great Bear Snowshed and Coquihalla Summit, and there are also slippery sections from the Coquihalla Summit to Merritt.

All of Highway 97A has slippery sections

The Okanagan Connector has fog patches between West Kelowna and the Pennask Summit, and slippery sections the entire way.

Charles Andrews is a commenter who drove from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A this morning, and reported the roads to be bare but wet all the way.

“Some slippery sections for those who like to slip and slide,” he said.

In weather, Kamloops will start the day at -7 Celsius and warm to -4 C in the evening. Temperatures in Vernon and Kelowna both start the day at -6 C and things will warm to -1 C before dropping to -5 C tonight. Penticton will be warming slightly from -3 C to -2 C throughout the day. Periods of snow are expected to begin at 9 p.m. throughout the region.

Up at the ski hills – Big White Ski Resort is reporting 3 centimetres of new snow in the past 24 hours and 18 cm in the past week. Sun Peaks Ski Resort has no new snow in the past two days and 6 cm in the past week. Silver Start Mountain Resort got 8 cm past six days. And Apex Mountain Resort is reporting no new snow in the past week. 

Only 16 more days until Christmas.
