BC Mountie fined for blowing stop sign, colliding with truck in Okanagan Falls

A BC cop was fined colliding with a truck and sending two people to hospital in Okanagan Falls.

BC Highway Patrol constable Ian Wetzel-Eden pleaded guilty in provincial court to failing to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a $368 fine on Aug. 28.

He collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Maple Street and 10 Avenue on July 10, 2022, where the driver and passenger in the truck were both taken to hospital. One of them had serious injuries, according to the BC Independent Investigations Office.

Crown prosecutors approved charges for both failing to stop at a stop sign and driving without due care and attention.

He pleaded guilty in a Kelowna courtroom to passing through the intersection illegally, but the charge related to the collision itself was stayed by the Crown.

He also paid a $55 victim surcharge along with the $368 fine.
