British Columbians are lightweight beer drinkers compared to most Canadians

Canadians from every other province drink more beer on average than British Columbians.

People in B.C. drink a mere 64.8 litres of beer every year on average, according to data from JAK's Beer Wine & Spirits. Folks in Ontario drink 65 litres, Albertans go through 69, and Quebecers weighed in at 77.4.

Among all the provinces, Canada’s biggest drinkers live in the Newfoundland, where they drink an average of 90.6 litres each year. The heaviest drinkers in the whole country are up in the Yukon, where they consume 106.5.

The only jurisdiction where less beer is enjoyed than B.C. is Nunavut, where heavy alcohol restrictions apply, and only 54.7 litres get enjoyed each year. 

The national average is 69.3 litres.

B.C. has 230 breweries. Nunavut and Northwest Territories both have just one brewery each. Yukon has five, Alberta 130, Quebec 260, 360 in Ontario and Newfoundland has 20.
