It’s official: Beer on the beach is back for another summer in Penticton

Penticton’s public alcohol consumption pilot project is back for a second summer after passing a final approval with city council yesterday.

This will be the second year for the program, which allows outdoor consumption of liquor at designated zones along Okanagan Beach and in Okanagan Lake Park and Skaha Park in the city.

Council adopted the bylaw yesterday, May 4.

The program, which runs until Oct. 15 this year, allows public liquor consumption in the designated areas from noon to 8 p.m. daily.

Council asked staff to prepare a report following this summer’s program so it can decide whether or not to continue the program for a third year is 2022.

“Feedback to the city has consistently indicated strong support for the bylaw overall and the information collected from staff and RCMP showed no notable pattern of irresponsible behaviour over the same period last year,” director of development services Blake Laven said in a media release.
