Armstrong getting a Starbucks

Seattle's most famous coffee company is opening a new location in the North Okanagan.

Starbucks confirmed a new coffee shop will open next month in Armstrong’s downtown, according to an email from director of public affairs Carly Suppa.

Although Suppa didn’t confirm the location or give a specific opening date, applications are being accepted for baristas and supervisors for a Starbucks on 3060 Smith Drive in the town.

In 2020, Starbucks closed roughly 200 Canadian locations, including one in downtown Kelowna, in order to restructure the company.

Unionization among Canadian Starbucks employees is also gaining traction. Six locations in B.C. and Alberta have unionized so far with Victoria being the only location in North America to have a collective agreement.
