Historic downtown Kamloops train station up for sale

A historic Kamloops train station could be yours if you have the cash.

The former Canadian National Railway station-turned restaurant in downtown Kamloops was listed for sale last week.

It changed hands a few times in the past decades until Kamloops brothers Jeff and Steve Mitton took it over for their downtown steakhouse. Now hosting their restaurant Twisted Med Grill in half the building, the entire property was listed at $1.9 million.

Jeff said the sale doesn’t mean the restaurant will close, but they plan to work with a prospective buyer should the building sell.

The heritage building’s use as the CN station dates back to the 1920s and it was converted to a restaurant two decades ago when it hosted The Keg. The steakhouse chain stayed at the 500 Lorne Street property until it closed in 2016.

Plans to turn the station into a distillery were derailed during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Mitton brothers returned it to a steakhouse in 2022.

Near the CN tracks and the Sandman Centre, the downtown building is nearly 12,000 square feet and includes a 300-person patio, according to the listing.
