The Latest: Man, 81, injured in Long Island crash dies

MANORVILLE, N.Y. – The Latest on a Long Island accident that killed four people, including a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and a 10-year-old boy. (all times local):

11:00 p.m.

An 81-year-old man who was injured in a multi-car crash on Long Island that killed four other people, including a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has died.

Suffolk County police say Isidore Adelson, of Westhampton, succumbed to his injuries late Sunday night. His wife remains hospitalized in critical condition following the crash Sunday morning on the Long Island Expressway near Manorville.

Police say 26-year-old Carmelo Pinales was driving a Subaru that apparently lost control and struck a Honda and a BMW. Pinales, his 27-year-old sister and 10-year-old son were killed.

The driver of the Honda, 29-year-old Scott Martella, also was killed. Martella was a spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and a former aide to Cuomo.

Six others were injured.

Police are investigating whether speed was a factor.

A 10-year-old boy who was critically injured in a multi-car crash on Long Island that killed three other people, including a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, has died.

Suffolk County police say Christopher Pinales, of Hicksville, died at a hospital after being injured in the Sunday morning crash on the Long Island Expressway near Manorville.

Police say the boy’s father, 26-year-old Carmelo Pinales, was behind the wheel of a Subaru that apparently lost control and struck a Honda and a BMW. Carmelo and his 27-year-old sister were killed, as well as the driver of the Honda, 29-year-old Scott Martella.

Martella was a spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and a former aide to Cuomo.

Seven other people suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and two others have been killed, and eight others, including two children, have been hurt in a multi-car crash on Long Island.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Sunday on the Long Island Expressway near Manorville. Police say the driver of a Subaru, 26-year-old Carmelo Pinales, of Hicksville, apparently lost control and struck a Honda and a BMW.

Pinales and his 27-year-old sister, Patricia Pinales, were killed. Carmelo’s 10-year-old son was hospitalized in critical condition.

The driver of the Honda, 29-year-old Scott Martella was also killed. He was a spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and former aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. His fiancé sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Six others, including a 3-year-old girl, also sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police say speed may have been a factor in the accident.
