The Toronto Raptors took some heat on social media for its use of a Bay Area landmark prior to Game 3 of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday in Oakland, Calif.
The Raptors tweeted a picture of the team standing on the Golden Gate Bridge with the words “Crossed the bridge. Ready for battle.” The team’s “We The North” slogan also is seen at the top of the bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge, however, is not the bridge that goes from San Francisco to Oakland. The Bay Bridge is the most direct route to Oracle Arena, home of the Warriors.
Commenters were quick to note the questionable use of geography.
“You seem lost and it’s not even the 3rd quarter yet…” tweeted @phineasb.
“I’m just wondering where the Raptors show up tonight … At The Oracle or Sausalito,” tweeted @jRoc23.
The Raptors, however, had the last laugh.
After winning 123-109, the Raptors tweeted “Takin’ whatever bridge we want back to SF up 2-1.”
It’s not the first time the Raptors have been involved in a geography battle on social media.
Earlier this season, ESPN displayed a graphic of Southern Ontario on its show “The Jump” that was incorrect, drawing snickers and snide comments on Twitter.
