iN NUMBERS: British Columbians’ feelings on 4th anniversary of the Freedom Convoy

One of the most notable political moments in recent memory was the 2022 Freedom Convoy protests against COVID-19 measures and restrictions.

The divisive blockades, the use of the Emergencies Act to shut it down and court cases that followed have been controversial, to put it mildly.

Now, we’re four years out and people are still split.

Here are the numbers from a recent Research Co. poll:

  • 73: Per cent of British Columbians polled closely followed the Freedom Convoy protests and fallout.
  • 38: Per cent of British Columbians polled support the protests and blockades opposing the COVID-19 mandates and restrictions.
  • 30: Per cent of British Columbians polled agree the federal government should be overthrown. It’s a great time to start selling torches and pitchforks.
  • 37: Per cent of British Columbians polled said there shouldn’t have been any COVID-19 mandates or restrictions.
  • 45: Per cent of British Columbians polled think the people protesting in 2022 were fighting for freedom.
  • 40: Per cent of British Columbians polled said the protestors were justified.
  • 65: Per cent of British Columbians polled think the use of the Emergencies Act to crackdown on the protest was justified.
  • 56: Per cent of British Columbians polled are concerned about Canada’s world image being negatively affected by the protest and the government’s reaction to it.
  • 59: Per cent of British Columbians polled are worried about the government using the Emergencies Act to crackdown on protests in the future.
  • 87: B.C. MLAs supported the first reading of a bill to make a stat holiday to honour the convoy.

WOW a stat holiday to honor the convoy. I thought our politicians were smarter than this. What absolute stupidity! But there you go, BC Conservatives are just as crazy as the Republicans
