Calgary Flames fire veteran head coach Bob Hartley

CALGARY – Bob Hartley is out of a job less than a year after accepting the Jack Adams Trophy as the NHL’s coach of the year.

The Calgary Flames say they have fired Hartley after the club finished 12th in the Western Conference this season and out of a playoff spot.

The Flames (35-40-7) have also informed associate coach Jacques Cloutier that he won’t be returning next season.

Hartley won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001.

Last season he led the Flames to a 45-30-7 record and third spot in the Pacific Division.

He signed a contract extension, reportedly for two years, in December 2014.
