North Carolina promotes ‘3 Billboards’ locations to tourists

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina is promoting the locations where the award-winning “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” was filmed as tourist destinations.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports the state’s tourism division has organized a trip planner for the locations where the movie was filmed in western North Carolina in 2016.

The three-day trip goes through Sylva, Dillsboro, Black Mountain, Asheville and Maggie Valley.

The movie won four Golden Globes, including best dramatic film and acting awards for Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. It also won three Critics Choice Movie Awards.

McDormand plays a grieving mother who’s angry with local authorities, who haven’t solved her daughter’s rape and murder. Rockwell plays a deputy.

North Carolina also promoted 2012’s “The Hunger Games,” which was filmed in the western part of the state.
