Austrian court sentences 2 Islamic radicals to prison terms

VIENNA – An Austrian court has found a Serbian-born Islamic preacher guilty of recruiting men to fight for the extremist Islamic State group and related crimes and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

The verdict and sentence were pronounced shortly before midnight Wednesday in the southern city of Graz. A second man was convicted of belonging to a terrorist organization on grounds of his membership in IS and sentenced to a 10-year prison term.

The 35-year old preacher was identified only as Mirsad O. and his alias of Abu Tejma in accordance with Austrian privacy laws. He also was found guilty for inciting others to murder and of coercion. The second man, aged 28, was named as Mucharbek T., from Chechnya.

Both men denied the charges.
