6 more sports sign up with IOC’s Olympic Channel

MADRID – Six additional sports have signed deals with the Olympic Channel to have some of their events shown on the new digital outlet.

The channel says agreements were reached with the international federations for cycling, skating and luge, as well as three new sports for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics — baseball-softball, karate and sport climbing.

They will “collaborate on content” for the round-the-clock digital channel, which was launched by the International Olympic Committee in August at the close of the Rio de Janeiro Games.

The six sports join the 27 which signed agreements with the channel earlier this year.

The channel says it will broadcast live events, as well as work with the federations on event coverage, highlights, magazine shows, news and original programming.

The channel has been airing live events since its launch, including in ice hockey, archery, canoe slalom, equestrian, triathlon, shooting and 3-on-3 basketball.
