70 Mile House votes for fire service

70 MILE HOUSE – The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has received results from a referendum held in 70 Mile House and the majority have voted for establishing a Fire Protection Financial Contribution Service Area within a portion of Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau).

Thirty-eight voters responded “Yes,” while 24 replied “No” in response to the ballot question: “Are you in favour of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District adopting Bylaw No. 2461 that will:
– establish the 70 Mile House Fire Protection Financial Contribution Service Area within a portion of Electoral Area ‘E’ (Bonaparte Plateau); and
– annually requisition the greater of $30,000 or $1.95/$1,000 of net taxable value of land and improvements for the service?”

At the April 23, 2015, Board of Directors meeting, the TNRD Board authorized a referendum for the establishment of a fire protection financial contribution service for the community of 70 Mile House within Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau).

This came on the heels of a public information meeting at the 70 Mile Community Hall on April 9, when community members in attendance indicated they were in favour of holding a referendum on the matter and voted on the requisition amount for that service.
