WARSAW, Poland – A container filled with nails injured one person as it exploded Thursday after being found on a city bus in the southwestern Polish city of Wroclaw, officials said.
Firefighter Krzysztof Gielsa told TVN24 the package exploded on the sidewalk, where it was taken by the bus driver who had spotted it unattended on his bus. Pawel Petrykowski, a spokesman for Wroclaw police, said a woman was taken to the hospital after being hit by the debris.
Police were searching for the person they suspect of having left the container on the bus and explosives experts were analyzing the substance in it, he said.
“Someone could have tried to build an (explosive) device at home,” Petrykowski said on TVN24.
TVN24 footage showed a container looking like a pressure cooker with no lid on the sidewalk with an unknown substance around it.
Wroclaw has seen some anti-police rioting after a 25-year-old man recently died in police custody.
