Weather records could fall in Okanagan

OKANAGAN – As temperatures in the Okanagan keep reaching well above 30 Celsius the possibility of new records being set throughout the region is very real today and tomorrow.

Temperatures climbed above 30 C nearly every day in the last two weeks and we can expect the same for the rest of this week.

While temperatures did reach the mid-30s Tuesday, July 7, it was not quite enough for a record, but with records ranging from 35 C to 41 C over the next few days, a new record is within reach this week.

According to Environment Canada temperatures will reach 35 C in Vernon today, July 8, and 36 C in Kelowna and Penticton. Similar temperatures are expected tomorrow and Friday as well. Things are expected to cool off a bit for the weekend, with highs forecast to be a bit closer to 30 C along with cloud cover and a chance of rain.

While the air is a bit clearer this morning a smoky air advisory remains in place and we can expect local smoke in the air for the next couple of days.
