KELOWNA – For the 67th year in a row, swimmers from across the province will plunge into Okanagan Lake for the Across the Lake Swim this weekend. And this year will be bigger than ever.

Last year, 900 participants showed up but this year event organizers have increased capacity significantly.

A record 1,200 swimmers of all ages and abilities will embark on the 2.1 km swim from the Ferry Docks in Kelowna to Hot Sands Beach in City Park Saturday morning. Hundreds of volunteers will also be on hand to ensure a safe crossing for all participants.

Swimmers depart in waves of 120 starting at 8 a.m. with funds raised benefitting the Across the Lake Swim Society. The Society uses the money to teach water safety to kids in the Central Okanagan.
