Overpass collapses on truck in Brazil, killing 1
RIO DE JANEIRO – An overpass above a major avenue in Brazil’s second largest city collapsed on a truck Wednesday, killing the driver and slightly injuring a passer-by, a spokesman for Rio de Janeiro’s Fire Department said.
Lt. Col. Marcelo Monnier told reporters the overpass collapse took place on Avenida Brasil, one of the main thoroughfares in and out of the city.
Monnier said the person injured was walking across the overpass when the accident occurred.
He said the cause of the accident is being investigated.
