Accused cop shooter’s case resumes in December with preliminary inquiry

KAMLOOPS – The man accused of shooting a Mountie during a traffic stop in Kamloops is slated to have his preliminary inquiry in December.

Ken Knutson, 36, has pleaded not guilty to various offences including the attempted murder of Cpl. Jean-Rene Michaud.

He was shot last Dec. 3, and Knutson was arrested following a manhunt that lasted more than 12 hours.

Knutson remains in custody and was recently transferred to a facility in Surrey.

Michaud is recovering at home after being shot in the elbow and torso and spending several months in hospital.

The RCMP has launched an internal investigation in an effort to prevent similar shootings in the future.
