iN PHOTOS: Bizarre looking insects emerge in Thompson-Okanagan

Spring has sprung in the Thompson-Okanagan region, and some gardeners and nature lovers are discovering fascinating insects and strange looking cocoons hanging around.

The alien-like snakeflies have emerged along with bugs and moths that look like sticks.

Included in this collection of photos are a few cocoons one of which, found on a trail in the Shuswap last month, has not been identified yet.

It can be fun to find rare or bizarre looking species and try to identify them. A common app for identifying insect species is iNaturalist that takes a submitted photograph of any wild plant, animal, fungi, or other organism and identifies it before a global community of naturalists confirms or refines the ID. The submission is kept for use by scientists and researchers.

If you found an interesting looking bug this spring, send us a photo at news@infonews.ca.
