Man who threatened Trump family, media figures gets 5 years

SEATTLE – A Seattle-area man with a history of severe mental illness has been sentenced to five years in prison for making threats against President Donald Trump’s family, synagogues and media figures.

Chase Bliss Colasurdo was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in May. He was arrested after posting a photo showing a gun pointed at a picture of Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law. He also made online threats to kill Donald Trump Jr.

He bought ammunition but was blocked from purchasing a handgun because the Secret Service flagged him.

The 27-year-old Colasurdo has a history of paranoid delusions. His attorney suggested he should serve less than a year in prison followed by five years of supervised release and mental health treatment.

U.S. Attorney Brian Moran said the case highlights the “frightening intersection of mental illness and weapons.”
