Two people injured in Lake Country ATV crash
LAKE COUNTRY – A Vernon teenager is in hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries after an all terrain vehicle crash in Lake Country Wednesday evening.
The 18-year-old was driving a mini-ATV on Williams Road around 7:45 p.m., Aug. 12, when both the driver and passenger, an 18-year-old Vernon woman, were ejected. RCMP believe the vehicle experienced a major mechanical failure, which led to the crash.
Both were taken to Kelowna General Hospital. The driver suffered very serious injuries while the woman suffered relatively minor injuries, according to Const. Kris Clark, who also notes neither occupant was wearing appropriate safety equipment.
A collision reconstructionist has completed an analysis of the scene and RCMP continue to investigate. Clark notes alcohol, along with the mechanical issues, are believed to be factors.
