Osoyoos business conference bringing native and private sector entrepreneurs together

PENTICTON – Native business leaders and private sector business groups are getting together in the South Okanagan to discuss potential joint business opportunities this month.

The sixth annual Native Aboriginal Business Opportunities Conference takes place at the NK'MIP Resort in Osoyoos from Sept. 15 to 17.

The event, which brings private sector professionals and business decision makers from aboriginal communities across the country together to network, get legal updates, and speak to Chief Clarence Louie on an individual basis, will be hosted by Louie.

More than 200 aboriginal and private sector delegates are expected to attend the three-day conference.

Native business leaders will have the opportunity to explore partnership opportunities with secuity services providers, log home distributors, insurance brokerages, emergency response, health and safety and the modular home industry, amongst others.

The conference begins with early registration from 6 to 8 p.m. at the NK'MIP Conference Centre on Sept. 15. Sept. 16 is conference day, with a full slate of business pitches throughout the morning and afternoon. Louie, the keynote speaker, will be on from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion on the future of aboriginal and private sector business relations. On Sept. 17 a number of workshops allow for networking opportunities. There will also be some time for wine touring and golf. I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
