Vancouver police arrest 33-year-old man they believe attacked two seniors

VANCOUVER – Police in Vancouver have arrested a man they believe is behind two random attacks on elderly women.

An 84-year-old woman was sitting on her walker waiting for a ride on a busy street last Thursday when a man kicked her off her seat.

She was taken to hospital and treated for a broken elbow.

Two hours later and a few blocks away, a 70-year-old woman in a wheelchair out with her daughter suffered minor injuries after she was punched in the face by a man matching the same description.

Police say a 33-year-old suspect is in custody and they’re gathering evidence to recommend charges and determine if there are links to any other incidents in the city.

The man’s mental health is believed to be a factor in the attacks.
