Canada-wide charity ball-hockey game to boost local food bank

KELOWNA — Five Hole for Food has been taking their hockey charity events across the country for three years, and the city of Kelowna will get a chance to play for the first time this year with the hope of helping a local food bank fill their shelves.

The big game takes place at Stuart Park Saturday afternoon from 2 – 5 p.m. and the public is invited to bring their sticks to play a round of drop-in ball hockey. It doesn't cost a dime to join in the fun, but a cash donation or a non-perishable food item will benefit the Kelowna Community Food Bank.

Five Hole for Food was born from Vancouver hockey fans in March 2010. In 2011, the tour that started in Newfoundland raised over 43,000 pounds of food coast to coast. In 2012 they raised more than 133,000 pounds of food.
