South African orphanage fire kills 8, injures 4

JOHANNESBURG – South African authorities say eight people, some of them children, have died in a fire at an orphanage.

Rescue officials say the fire broke out early Thursday in Parlock on the northern outskirts of the coastal city of Durban.

Emergency responders for South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province announced the death toll on Twitter. South African media reports say four other people were injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
