Cambodia police arrest 2 South Koreans carrying $2.2 million

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – Police in Cambodia said Monday they have arrested two South Korean citizens who were found carrying $2.2 million into the country without proper authorization.

National Police identified the two as Yoon Wongi and Song Hyunhoo and said they were arrested Sunday after they arrived at Siem Reap International Airport from Hong Kong.

They said immigration officials found the $2.2 million, mostly in $100 bills, in their luggage.

The National Police website said the men are being questioned and the money has been confiscated.

In April, three Chinese citizens were charged with money laundering after they were found to be carrying more than $3.5 million without authorization. If convicted, they could face 10 to 20 years in prison.
