Manslaughter charge laid after probe into 2018 slaying in Surrey, B.C.

SURREY, B.C. – A manslaughter charge has been laid in what police said was a suspicious death in Surrey, B.C., in January last year.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says 35-year-old Steven Mueller was arrested Friday and charged with the manslaughter of Shawnn Cotter.

RCMP found the 37-year-old man dead in a Surrey home on Jan. 7, 2018.

Const. Harrison Mohr of the investigation team says in a release that Mueller has appeared in court and has been released on conditions.

Court documents show his next appearance is set for Sept. 20 in provincial court.

Mohr says the slaying is not believed to be linked to gangs or other violence in Surrey and no other suspects are wanted in the case.
