Man makes off with more than $50,000 in drive-thru ATM theft in Vernon

VERNON – Police are investigating after a man broke into a drive-thru ATM in Vernon and made off with tens of thousands of dollars.

RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says the Interior Savings Credit Union drive-thru ATM building at 4301 32 St. was broken into just after 10 p.m. Sept. 24.

“An unknown male gained entrance to the building and fled the scene with more than $50,000,” Noseworthy says.

Police say the suspect was caught on video surveillance and that the break-in appeared to happen very fast. The detachment is not releasing any images from the security footage at this time and Noseworthy would not comment on how the suspect got into the safe or the exact sum of cash he got away with. 

Aside from being described as male, there is no further description being released of the suspect. Police continue to investigate if more people were involved in the crime, but believe only the one man entered the building.
