NAIROBI, Kenya – A Kenyan police official says nine suspects including an American have been arrested in connection with an alleged international wire fraud ring.
Noah Katumo, the head of the special crimes prevention unit, says a court on Wednesday ordered that the suspects be held for 20 more days so investigations can be completed.
A senior police official says among the suspects is Larry Peckham II, a 52-year-old from the United States. Other suspects include a former police officer attached to the cybercrime unit and a former Kenya Revenue Authority officer.
The official says the ring targeted the revenue authority and banks, with millions of Kenyan shillings thought to be stolen.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
